Kyler Murray Is Going To Break Out As A DFS Superstar In 2020

Taking home Rookie Of The Year honors, Kyler Murray was incredibly fun to watch in 2019. As the first overall draft pick, it was expected that the quarterback would perform well. The quick and energetic Murray is an all-world athlete and was selected in the MLB draft a year prior.

Finishing 2019 as QB7 in fantasy formats, Murray was a steal for many. Often playing from behind, Murray was able to rack up 3,722 yards through the air, including 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also piled up 544 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Despite being sacked 48 times, Murray showed durability by playing in all 16 games.

The quarterback lacked weapons. Murray’s main target was 36-year-old Larry Fitzgerald. The future Hall Of Fame wide out is still rock solid, but shouldn’t be a number-one for any team at this juncture. Next comes a list of incredibly young receivers. Second-year wide out Christian Kirk, rookie Andy Isabella, and a bunch of no-namers rounded out the rest of Murray’s list of receivers. Running back was a revolving door, with Kenyan Drake, David Johnson, and Chase Edmonds all receiving starts at one point or another. Last season it was difficult to draft Murray because you never know how the supporting cast would turn out, they may have some good games, but you really couldn’t trust the Cardinals to cover the point spread, let alone put up DFS numbers. 

The Cardinals primarily focused on drafting defensive players this year; however, their third-round selection was a promising offensive tackle who is expected to start immediately. The more exciting addition came via trade with Bill O’Brien and the Houston Texans, when the Cardinals sent David Johnson, a second-round pick, and a future fourth-round pick to the Texans for DeAndre Hopkins and a fourth-round pick. With a mix of youth and experience the Cardinals will be a much tougher team to contain. When the 2nd half spread is released I wouldn’t want to be a defense trying to stop them. 

Just like that, Murray has a true number-one receiver. This will force defenses to play more balanced, instead of honing in on Arizona’s rush attack from Drake and Murray. This gives Murray more opportunity to throw touchdowns, get to the 4,000 passing yards mark for the first time, and run for some more yards and scores. Hopkins demands so much attention from defenses, so it’s fair to expect Murray to take a leap forward on the ground with this addition. This upcoming season it would make a lot of sense to take up a book on their sportsbook welcome bonus and place a few prop bets on Kyler Murray. He is slated to have a breakout year with the Cardinals. 

Don’t be shocked if Murray finishes the 2020 season as high as QB3 or QB4. If we were able to play DFS he would be one of the top NFL picks today for a lot of competitions. He has a motor that doesn’t stop, blazing wheels underneath him, and a star receiver to look for in key situations. Murray is going to breakout and win some DFS contests for managers in 2020.
