Knowing which players perform well against a lefty pitcher, or on a home stand, or in a pitcher’s park, is critical to making quality daily fantasy decisions. Consider Stacking Against These Pitchers in the NL Central

One of the most popular strategies in FanDuel MLB is to stack lineups that have the potential to go off. Today, we look at the other way to approach stacking – picking the right pitcher to stack against.

 

Any Starting Pitcher on the Colorado Rockies – It is a time-honored DFS tradition to stack against whoever is taking the hill for Colorado when they are playing at home. No pitcher is safe from Coors Field’s high altitude and thin air. According to ESPN’s Ballpark Factors, Coors Field treated hitters better than any other ball park from 2012 – 2015. The fact that the Rockies don’t really have any good starting pitchers doesn’t help things in that regard, either.

Rubby De La Rosa, Arizona Diamondbacks – De La Rosa has decent stuff and has been a popular sleeper pick in fantasy circles for some time now. Unfortunately, the man just can’t keep the ball in the ballpark. Aside from Ian Kennedy, De La Rosa had the worst HR/9 of any qualifying starting pitcher in the Major Leagues last season. He also pitches in Chase Field, which doesn’t treat pitchers all that well.

James Shields, San Diego Padres – Shields, unlike the other entrants in this post, does belong to a pitcher-friendly ballpark. However, he still gives up a lot of home runs. He’s a workhorse and has some good wipeout pitches, but his 1.47 HR/9 when pitching at Petco Park should be a lightbulb for DFS players looking to stack against a pitcher who won’t drive his opponent’s value through the roof.
